DW Maple Custom Satin Oil Finish Reviews 4

My main instrument is drums and I have been playing for about 10 years. I'm currently in a few projects. I listen to hard rock, metal, smooth jazz, latin music, and underground hip hop.

I purchased this set at Guitar Center in Lynnwood, WA. A 10", 12" and 16" and a 22" kick, and they threw in Iron Cobra hardware (Rolling Glide Double Pedal, Hi Hat Stand) and DW hardware (two tom stands at $129 a pop) for a little under $3000.

These drums sound amazing every time I get behind the set. Very punchy kick (I would recommend Remo Ambassador for the resonant head, and the Evans Emad for the batter) and the toms sound great if you slap on some one ply Remos on the batter. The factory heads that originally came with it are decent, but after some trial and error with testing different heads, i discovered these toms can really live up to the name if you can get the right mix. I havent changed the resonant heads for the toms, however, and don't plan to until needed.

The only thing is that the Satin Oil Finish makes it VERY easy to scratch. All i can really say is that either way DW's sound great, but invest in some cases! I will most likely buy another DW kit but with lacquer finish.

Great hardware, great sound. GREAT SOUNDING.

Invest in cases!!!
